Red Wings Injury Update: Henrik Zetterberg is feeling good

By on 9/12/2014 06:00:00 PM

Detroit Red Wings Henrik Zetterberg is feeling good heading into training camp and the preseason.

Zetterberg underwent back surgery on February 21st to remove a fragment of a disc that was rubbing against a nerve. This caused his back to flare up at times and caused him pain and missed ice time. Now that the surgery is done he does not have to worry about anymore flare-ups.

He has had a good summer of on and off ice workouts and is ready for training camp come September 19th.

"That part of the back is healed," Zetterberg said Thursday, after an informal practice with several teammates at Joe Louis Arena.

"I feel good. I can do everything on the ice and in the weight room. I had a really good summer, workout-wise, so I look forward to seeing what results that will give me.

"It's nice to come in and feel good and not think about (his back) and just go out and play hockey."

Zetterberg missed 37 games last season, 24 of them after the surgery was done. He hopes 2014-2015 will be a better season and says his back should not be an issue.

"I think they took away all of the loose pieces that they could in that area, so that's healed,"  "I have no issues with it now so it shouldn't be a problem."

Last season Zetterberg played 45 games, had 16 goals and 32 assists. He also played one game for Sweden in the Olympics but could not continue as the pain worsened leading him to get the surgery done.
