Red Wings Injury Update: Pavel Datsyuk injures shoulder in preseason opener

By on 9/24/2014 05:30:00 PM

After a season of missing many games due to injuries, Pavel Datsyuk was hoping to start the year fresh. However, it did not last long as the Detroit Red Wings alternate captain suffered an upper body injury.

Datsyuk was in the lineup against the Pittsburgh Penguins for the teams first preseason game. He was checked into a stanchion by Penguins' Rob Scuderi which forced Datsyuk to leave the game early in the third period.

Datsyuk was further evaluated on the day following the injury. He went for an MRI and at first it was estimated he would be out for a week. The results came back and revealed that he suffered a grade 2 separated shoulder. With that being said, Datsyuk will be out at least a month-depending on the healing process.

Before the injury occurred, Datsyuk was having a great start. He had an assist in the game as well as the game winning goal before leaving the game early. The Red Wings won 2-1 against the Penguins.
