Reds Injury Update: Dylan Axelrod may be done for season

By on 9/15/2014 06:30:00 PM

After missing Saturday night's start, Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Dylan Axelrod's strained oblique looks to be serious enough to cause him to miss the rest of the season.  He exited his previous start after recording just one out before injury.  Rookie David Holmberg started in his place and looks to remain in his spot in the rotation until season's end.
Axelrod was purchased by the Reds on July 17th from the Chicago White Sox and has made four starts with the Reds this season.  In those starts, Axelrod has a 3.12 ERA with a 1-1 record.

Through his career he has a 8-14 record with a 5.18 ERA.  The 29-year-old will have to prove himself next spring to earn a spot on a major league rotation.

Holmberg performed admirably in Axelrod's place Saturday night by going six innings and allowing only one run and two hits. He now has a chance to earn his spot in the 2015 rotation.
