Sheldon also reported that had Bailey not gone with surgery and simply rehabbed his injury, he could have been forced to miss most or all of next season. By having the surgery, Bailey is now expected to be ready to go by the start of spring training.
This season has been a nightmare for Bailey. He has not only battled injury, but after signing a multi-year extension, he struggled on the mound.
While his end of season ERA finished at 3.71 it ballooned near six through April and was over five through May.
Signed at least through 2019, Bailey is needed as a member of the rotation for next season and beyond. Expected to again compete for the National League Central next season, the Cincinnati Reds are banking on him to deliver.
