Reds Injury Update: Joey Votto, Mat Latos

By on 9/18/2014 07:30:00 AM

The Cincinnati Reds entered Wednesday night's game against the Chicago Cubs with a record of 71-81, fourth in the National League Central. The Reds have struggled offensively, ranked 28th in the Major Leagues in runs scored. With ten games remaining, the Reds hold out hope that Joey Votto could return before the end of the season. In other injury news, Mat Latos threw for the first time since being scratched on September 12.

I reported on September 11 that Votto, who was still feeling discomfort in his injured quad, started hitting off a tee and hadn't ruled out returning sometime before the end of the season.

John Fay, who covers the Reds for the Cincinnati Enquirer, tweeted the following update on Votto.
Votto, in his eighth Major League season, is batting .255 with six home runs and 23 RBI this season. The four-time All Star, league MVP and Gold Glove Award winner has a career average of .310 with 163 home runs and 553 RBI.

As for Latos, our own Rose Ingberman reported that Latos was scratched from his start on September 12 with a bone bruise in his right elbow.

Fay also tweeted the following update on Latos.

Latos, in his sixth Major League season, is 5-5 with a 3.25 ERA in 16 games this season.  The veteran has pitched for the Padres and Reds and has a career record of 60-45 with an ERA of 3.34.
