By on 9/05/2014 08:00:00 AM

The Cincinnati Reds lost to the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday by the score of 9-7. The loss dropped the Reds to 66-74, fourth in the National League Central. Devin Mesoraco went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI for the Reds, who were once again without shortstop Zack Cozart. Jake Elmore started at shortstop and went 1-for-4.

As reported by Mark Sheldon of, Cozart was supposed to return to the Reds on Thursday to play the final game of the series against the Orioles, after missing time when his wife gave birth to their first child. But Cozart is banged up and has been bothered by soreness in his right wrist. There is no indication whether or not Cozart will be available this weekend when the Reds play the New York Mets.

Cozart, in his fourth Major League season, is batting .228 with three home runs and 35 RBI this season.  In 429 career games, all with the Reds, Cozart has a batting average of .246 with 32 home runs and 136 RBI.
