Redskins Injury Update: Jordan Reed says he is out for Week 4

By on 9/24/2014 09:45:00 AM

Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed said yesterday that he will not be able to play Thursday night's game against the New York Giants, according to Dan Hanzus of  Reed suffered a hamstring injury in Week 1 against the Houston Texans, and has not been able to practice since. This will be the third straight game missed for Reed, and he has admitted he doesn't know when he will return.

Reed was drafted by the Redskins in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida.  In his rookie year with Washington, Reed was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list after struggling with concussions.  In nine games he posted 45 receptions for 499 yards and three touchdowns.

Mike Jones from the Washington Post tweeted about Reed yesterday afternoon:
Four weeks ago in the Redskins season opener at Houston, Reed caught a short pass near the left sideline and was hit by two defensive players while he was in an awkward position. The second-year player limped to the sideline and threw his helmet in frustration. The 24 year-old tight end had one reception for four yards before the injury.

The Redskins have temporarily replaced Reed with tight end Niles Paul who has amassed 18 receptions for 253 yards and one touchdown in three games played.  Paul is expected to start tomorrow night on Thursday Night Football versus division-rival New York Giants.

It doesn't sound like Reed will be healthy anytime soon as he eluded that next week's match-up with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football is also questionable.
