Royals Injury Update: Christian Colon hopes to play

By on 9/05/2014 06:15:00 AM

Kansas City Royals rookie, Christian Colon may have a broken finger tip on his middle finger, but that doesn't necessarily mean that his season is over.
MLB.com's Dick Kaegel is reporting that while Colon's workload is restricted, he still wants to do what ever he can by playing in any role needed. He could still be able to use his speed in a pinch running situation or bunt if need be at the plate.

According to manager Ned Yost, the only thing that Colon cannot do is throw, since it puts pressure on his finger to grip the baseball.

In his first season, Colon has appeared in 20 games, seeing time at both second and third base, shortstop, and even time as a designated hitter. In 20 games Colon has a .302 average with two steals and seven runs scored.

During a time where rosters are expanded the Royals should be able to easily put in Colon in situations that suit his strength until he is full healthy and ready to go.  With the team playing in their most meaningful games in the past two decades, Colon's small contributions now can play a great role in their divisional and playoff hopes.
