Royals Injury Update: Josh Willingham out with strained groin

By on 9/13/2014 11:30:00 AM

The Kansas City Royals enter Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox with a record of 80-66, a half game behind the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central. With 16 games remaining, the Royals have an excellent chance at making the playoffs. There is some concern on the injury front, as Josh Willingham is out with a strained groin.

Willingham has battled injuries all season. Our own Ryan O'Rourke reported on September 1 that Willingham was dealing with soreness to the muscle in the back of his ribcage.

Blair Kerkhoff, sports writer for The Kansas City Star, tweeted the following update on Willingham.
Willingham, in his 11th Major League season, is batting .224 with 14 home runs and 40 RBI. He had his best season in 2012 when he belted 35 home runs and drove in 110 runs. The veteran has played for the Marlins, Nationals, A's, Twins and Royals and is a career .253 hitter with 195 home runs and 632 RBI.
