Saints Injury Update: Mark Ingram week-to-week after thumb surgery

New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram, who was off to hot start to begin the season, broke his hand on Sunday in the Saints loss to the Cleveland Browns Sunday and underwent surgery. Ingram had a pair of screws inserted near then thumb to repair a displaced fracture according to Brett Martel of The Bellingham Herald.

Saints Head Coach Sean Payton said Ingram, who has averaged 6 yards per carry and scored three touchdowns, won't be able to play Sunday when the Saints (0-2) host Minnesota (1-1) because of surgery to repair his broken hand.

In regards to the procedure and timetable for return, Payton added, "Everything went well," adding that the running back's status would be updated "week to week."

In Mark Ingram's absence, Khiry Robinson, the second year undrafted free agent, should see a huge boost in carries out of the backfield, with Pierre Thomas expected to be on the field for most of the passing downs. 

As Coach Payton said, Ingram's status should be updated week to week. It was originally reported by several sources, including ESPN, that Ingram will be sidelined for a month.
