Saints Injury Update: Mark Ingram expected to miss a month with broken hand

The Saints have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2014 season, but not in the good sense. The Rob Ryan led defense has struggled mightily, allowing 63 points over two games. It has led to an 0-2 start for the team, but the offense has given reason for optimism. Unfortunately, that too is about to diminish.

Running back, Mark Ingram, broke his hand in the Saints loss to the Browns on Sunday, an injury that will likely sideline him for quite some time, as Adam Schefter of ESPN reported.

Since being taken in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft, the former Heisman trophy winner has been largely disappointing as a feature back. This season, however, appeared to be a turn of the tide for the fourth-year pro out of Alabama. Through two games, Ingram had 143 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries.

Ingram was on pace for his best season in the NFL. This latest setback will keep him out of the lineup for at least a month. In his stead, second-year running back, Khiry Robinson, will take over big-back duties and goal-line runs. He will be spelled by veterans Pierre Thomas, and Travaris Cadet, as the Saints look to bounce back from an extremely slow start.
