Spurs Injury Update: Tiago Splitter out with leg injury

By on 9/29/2014 07:53:00 PM

The San Antonio Spurs announced that Tiago Splitter suffered an injury in Day 3 of training camp. According to Rotoworld, Splitter suffered a strained right soleus, a muscle located in the back of the lower leg, and will be reevaluated in 7-10 days.

Splitter has about a month to recover until opening night against the Dallas Mavericks. If he remains sidelined, it's likely that Tim Duncan will slide to the center position and Boris Diaw inserted into the starting lineup at the power forward spot. Though the Spurs have ready-to-go backups in Matt Bonner and Aaron Baynes, Splitter brings muscle and low-post defense, something that San Antonio will need in a conference full of talented big men.

In the 2014 postseason, Splitter averaged 7.5 points on 61.0 percent shooting and 6.1 rebounds in 22.4 minutes per game, battling the likes of Dirk Nowitzki, LaMarcus Aldridge and Serge Ibaka en route to his first NBA championshp with the Spurs.
