Texans Injury Update: Jadeveon Clowney having MCL, meniscus checked

By on 9/08/2014 02:23:00 PM

The NFL debut of the number one overall pick did not go exactly as planned. Houston Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney hurt his knee after landing awkwardly on Sunday against the Washington Redskins.

Per Will Carroll on Twitter:

While the injury could have been drastically more severe if it were an ACL injury, the Texans are hoping Clowney, a freak athlete, would be a perfect complement for former defensive player of the year, J.J. Watt, for this season and the foreseeable future.

While we will not know the extent of the injury, as Will Carroll states, until after the procedure, the meniscus and MCL injuries typically have a reasonably short recovery period compared to an ACL injury, so it could have been much worse. More information should be available later on Monday with an update as to a timetable for his return.
