Buccaneers Injury Update: Logan Mankins, Doug Martin

By on 9/08/2014 11:09:00 AM

The Buccaneers offense on Sunday was over-matched by the Panthers defense, and the injuries to newly acquired guard Logan Mankins and start running back Doug Martin were a great cause for concern.

According to Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk, the Buccaneers may have dogged a bullet with Mankins:

Per a league source it appears Mankins suffered a mild hyper-extension and bad bruise. It's not a long term injury.

Thats great news for an offensive line who struggled mightily in the loss to the Panthers. They are going to need to protect Josh McCown much better, and create room for running back Doug Martin, who hopefully will not miss much, if any time. Greg Auman tweeted during the game:

The severity of Martin's injury is yet to be determined, but after having a disappointing 2013, which included season ending surgery for a torn labrum, an injury week one is the last thing Martin, the Bucs and his fantasy owners were hoping for. If Martin can't go, I'd expect Bobby Rainey to have a bigger impact in the offense. Lets hope both stars can recover and be available, and more importantly effective, in week two.
