Tigers Injury Update: Anibal Sanchez on course for midweek return

By on 9/22/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Detroit Tigers fell to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday by the score of 5-2. Even with the loss, the Tigers are 86-69, first in the American League Central. The Tigers are second in the Major Leagues in runs scored, but 22nd in ERA. They could get a boost this week, though, as Anibal Sanchez could be activated from the disabled list by midweek.

Our own Raymond Bureau reported on September 16 that Sanchez, who has been out since August 9 with an injury to his right pectoral muscle, threw a bullpen session and there was a possibility he could return by the post season.

An update on Sanchez, as reported by Chris Iott of, is that he faced Tigers' hitters during a simulated game on Sunday. If there are no setbacks today, he will likely be activated from the disabled list by the middle of the week.

The return of Sanchez could be big for the Tigers entering the post season, giving them another arm, most likely out of the bullpen.

Sanchez, in his ninth Major League season, is 8-5 with a 3.46 ERA in 21 games this season. He's allowed only 107 hits and 30 walks in 125 innings, while striking out 102. The veteran has pitched for the Marlins and the Tigers and has a career record of 70-64 with a 3.54 ERA.
