Vikings Injury Update: Teddy Bridgewater expected to play in Week 5

By on 9/29/2014 11:00:00 AM

Teddy Bridgewater's first NFL start could not have gone much better, as he topped 300 passing yards and added a rushing touchdown in the Minnesota Vikings' 41-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. But he suffered a left ankle injury during the fourth quarter, which left Christian Ponder to finish the game in his place.

Immediate x-rays on Bridgewater's ankle came back negative, so he appears to be dealing with a sprain that shouldn't sideline him long-term. For what it's worth, Bridgewater said he expects to play on Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers. He was slated for an MRI on Sunday night, and Vikings' head coach Mike Zimmer may offer some clarity on Bridgewater's status during his Monday press conference.

The Vikings signed quarterback Chandler Harnish to their practice squad on Monday morning, in an effort to add some depth during a short week of practice. Ponder is the only other quarterback, besides Bridgewater, that the Vikings have on the active roster right now and Harnish will join McLeod Bethel-Thompson on the practice squad.
