Yankees Injury Update: Mark Teixeira returns after resting sore wrist

By on 9/17/2014 08:30:00 PM

New York Yankees (76-74) first baseman Mark Teixeira returned to the lineup today after resting his wrist yesterday.  The Yankees were unsure when Teixeira would return, but he told manager Joe Girardi that he was able to play today, despite the wrist still being sore.

Teixeira has experienced many different, although minor, injuries throughout the season.  Aaron Gleeman from NBC Sports reports that this time it is discomfort in his right wrist, on which he had season ending surgery last year.

Teixeira played well in the first part of the 2014 baseball season, but he has struggled through injuries especially after the All-Star break.  In 115 games played, he is batting only .218 with a .723 OPS.  It is his second lowest batting average, with last year being his worst but he only played 15 games in 2013.

The third place Yankees have already been eliminated in the AL East division with the Baltimore Orioles clinching yesterday.  The Yankees are six games back in the AL wild card race with 12 games left in the season.
