Yankees Injury Update: Martin Prado done for season after appendectomy

By on 9/16/2014 12:15:00 PM

The New York Yankees' Martin Prado has played his last game of the 2014 season after undergoing an emergency appendectomy, as Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network tweeted:

The Yankees PR feed subsequently tweeted that Prado had been placed on the 60-day DL, with infielder Jose Pirela coming up to take his place on the 40-man roster.
Prado was hitting well since coming over from Arizona, with a .316/.336/.541 line and 7 home runs in 37 games. It's the second successive year in which he has impressed in the second half after having a disappointing first half: in 2013 his OPS jumped from .668 before the All-Star break to .864 afterwards. Prado's loss takes away a lot of options for the Yankees, as he had played multiple games at second base, third base and left field for them.
