49ers Injury Update: Patrick Willis unlikely to play Week 7

By on 10/17/2014 03:15:00 PM

San Francisco 49ers (4-2) linebacker Patrick Willis missed a second day in a row of practice Thursday after sustaining a toe injury late in the first half of Monday’s 31-17 win against the St Louis Rams.  Coach Jim Harbaugh does not think the injury will be long term, but his availability for Sunday night’s game against the Denver Broncos is doubtful.

The All-Pro inside linebacker is one of three typical starting linebackers currently injured (NaVorro Bowman and Aldon Smith have been out for the entire year thus far).  The 29-year-old seven-time Pro Bowler is in his eighth season in the NFL, all with San Francisco, after being drafted in the first round (11th overall) by the 49ers in 2007 out of the University of Mississippi.  This season, Willis has 34 combined tackles, five assisted tackles, and one interception thrown in the first six weeks.  In his career, Willis has 950 tackles, 20.5 quarterback sacks, eight interceptions and 16 forced fumbles.
