Athletics Injury Update: Brandon Moss and Stephen Vogt have surgery scheduled

By on 10/09/2014 11:00:00 AM

The Oakland A's season ended with a 9-8 loss in the AL Wild Card game to the Kansas City Royals. Finishing the regular season with 88 wins, the A's were fourth in runs scored and third in ERA. Injuries were not a major factor this season, as six players appeared in over 120 games. There is some injury news though, as Brandon Moss and Stephen Vogt have surgery scheduled in the next couple of weeks.

I reported on September 25 that Moss, who had been bothered by chronic hip problems, would require microfracture surgery in the off season.

Jane Lee, who covers the A's for, tweeted the following updates on Vogt and Moss:
Moss, in his eighth Major League season, is batting .234 with 25 home runs and 81 RBI this season. The veteran has played for the Red Sox, Pirates, Phillies and A's and is a career .248 hitter with 91 home runs and 298 RBI.

Vogt hit .279 with nine home runs and 35 RBI in 84 games with the A's this season. He played 18 games with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2012, but did not have a hit in 25 at bats. Vogt played in 47 games with the A's in 2013 and has a career batting average of .254 with 13 home runs and 51 RBI.
