Avalanche Injury Update: Semyon Varlamov has been put on IR, Reto Berra will start tonight

By on 10/16/2014 07:30:00 PM

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov has been placed on injured reserve with a groin injury, according to Chris Peters at cbssports.com.

Varlamov, 26, skated with the team Thursday morning but had to leave practice early.  The lingering groin injury is apparently worse than initially believed.  Varlamov was the Avalanche's team MVP last season with a .927 save percentage, a 2.41 goals-against average, and a franchise record 41 wins in 63 games.  He is off to a 0-2-1 start this year with a 3.80 goals-against average.

Reto Berra will get the start tonight against the Ottawa Senators. Berra has saved 37 of 38 shots in 80 minutes of action so far this season.
