Bengals Injury Update: A.J. Green making progress

By on 10/21/2014 02:45:00 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals had a dismal offensive showing against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7, as they failed to score and put up just 135 yards of offense in a 27-point loss. The absence of wide receiver A.J. Green due to a right toe injury played a big role in that ineptitude, as quarterback Andy Dalton was left without his top target for a second straight game.

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said on Monday that Green has made a lot of progress, which lends some hope for a return to action soon. But Green himself told NFL Network on Tuesday morning that his status for Week 8 against the Baltimore Ravens is "up in the air", while also offering that he is feeling better.

Green originally suffered the injury, which he has said he considers comparable to turf toe, in Week 1 and he barely played against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2 after aggravating the injury. Green has admitted he may not be 100 percent healthy the rest of the season, but he conveyed hope he can manage the injury and play at a high level.

Mohamed Sanu has stepped into a big role for Cincinnati, with Marvin Jones (foot/ankle) inactive early and now out for the season, with 30 receptions for 408 yards and three touchdowns thus far. Green's return will help Sanu be more consistently productive, and the entire Bengals' offense will welcome one of the league's best receivers back with open arms whenever he is able to suit up.
