Blackhawks Injury Update: Kris Versteeg to miss three weeks with lower-body injury

By on 10/08/2014 05:08:00 PM

The Chicago Blackhawks were informed today that they will be without forward Kris Versteeg for the next three weeks due to what coach Joel Quenneville called, "a lower-body injury". According to ESPNChicago's Scott Powers, Versteeg suffered the injury in practice yesterday and will be put on the Blackhawks long-term injured reserve.

Versteeg was projected to join Chicago's third line this season along with Brad Richards and Bryan Bickell but obviously that will have to wait. Ben Smith is now expected to replace Versteeg on that line. The injury is not related to the season-ending knee surgery that cut his 2013 season short while he was a member of the Florida Panthers.

Versteeg has played in 412 career games in previous stints with Chicago (twice), Toronto, Philadelphia and Florida. He has amassed 241 points including 102 goals and finished third in the Calder Trophy voting back in 2008-2009.
