The Columbus Blue Jackets are officially down a forward after Brandon Dubinsky underwent abdominal surgery on Wednesday. According to The Globe and Mail, Dubinsky will be out six weeks after sustaining the injury. Dubinsky suffered the injury during a practice session on Monday.

Dubinsky has been placed on injured reserve and will be sidelined for quite a while. Columbus also claimed Adam Cracknell off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings to provide more depth at the forward position. Coach Todd Richards reiterated that the loss of Dubinsky would open the door for several players to see more ice time including rookies Michael Chaput and Marko Dano.

Dubinsky has played in a combined 498 games with the New York Rangers and the Columbus Blue Jackets since entering the league in 2006-2007. He has racked up 283 points and is one goal shy of reaching the 100 goal plateau for his career.
