Blue Jackets Injury Update: Four players put on injured reserve including Nathan Horton

By on 10/07/2014 09:55:00 AM

The Columbus Blue Jackets will open the season without the services of Nathan Horton, Boone Jenner, and Sonny Milano, according to ProHockeyTalk.  Ryan Murray is also more than likely out for the first game.

Horton is a 29-year-old winger who suffers from a degenerative back problem.  The former third overall draft pick hasn't played a full regular season since 2007-2008.  There is no timetable for his return to the Blue Jackets' lineup.

Jenner is a 21-year-old center who is recovering from surgery on a broken hand.  Last season he scored 29 points in 72 games as a rookie.  He is expected to return in November.

Milano was Columbus's first-round draft pick last June.  The 18-year-old winger suffered facial fractures after hitting the boards in a prospects game last month.  He isn't expected to play much if at all for the Blue Jackets even when healthy.

Murray, 21, was the the second overall pick in the 2012 draft.  Last year the rookie defenseman scored 21 points in 66 games.  He is back skating after having offseason knee surgery.  There is a chance he plays in the season opener if he is cleared for contact.

The Columbus Blue Jackets open the season Thursday in Buffalo.
