Blue Jackets Injury Update: James Wisniewski out with broken finger

By on 10/28/2014 11:00:00 PM

The Columbus Blue Jackets are unfortunately getting their money's worth with their team doctors this season. Next up in the revolving door of injuries is defenseman James Wisniewski, who will miss 1-2 weeks with a broken finger, as confirmed by the team's official Twitter account.

The 30-year-old blue-liner, now in his fourth season with the team, has played in nine games this season. He has three assists and is averaging nearly 22 minutes per game.

Last season, Wisniewski played in 75 games, scoring seven goals and leading the team with 44 assists. His 51 points had him ranked second on the team, and he was also second in TOI.

This is a tough loss for team, as Wisniewski plays a lot of minutes. Fortunately for them, he isn't expected to miss too much time.

Earlier in the day, the team placed goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and forward Matt Calvert on injured reserve, and that was just the tip of the injury iceberg for the Blue Jackets. Nick Foligno was recently stretchered off the ice. Cam Atkinson took a skate to the face. Boone Jenner and Brandon Dubinsky are also on IR. And Nathan Horton's career could be over. A very difficult start to the season.
