Blue Jackets Injury Update: Matt Calvert placed on IR

By on 10/28/2014 09:30:00 AM

The Columbus Blue Jackets have decided to place veteran left winger Matt Calvert on injured reserve today, retroactive to October 24th. According to The Columbus Dispatch, the move was made due to an upper-body injury that Calvert sustained in a 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks in Anaheim last Friday night. He is expected to miss about a week.

It was reported that Calvert attempted to play Sunday against the Kings in Los Angeles but could not make it through pre-game warm-ups. Columbus did however, recall rookie Alexander Wennberg whom they had previously sent down to the AHL Springfield Falcons just before Sunday's game against Los Angeles.

Calvert is in his fifth season in the NHL, all with Columbus, after spending three seasons with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL. He played his junior hockey with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL where he had a breakout year in 2009-2010 with 99 points including 47 goals in 68 games.
