Blues Injury Update: Paul Stastny leaves game with upper-body injury

By on 10/18/2014 10:15:00 PM

St.Louis Blues forward Paul Stastny left Saturday night's game in the opening minute and did not return, as confirmed by the team's official Twitter account. The injury occurred when Arizona Coyotes forward Martin Hanzel hit Stastny along the boards. He finished with 31 seconds played.

Stastny, who signed a four-year deal with the Blues during the summer, played in all three of the team's games prior to Saturday night. He has one goal and three assists, and a plus-1 plus/minus record. He was averaging over 17 minutes per game.

Last season, the 28-year-old played in 71 games for the Colorado Avalanche. He scored 25 goals and added 35 assists.

The Blues have big expectations for Stastny after giving him a big contract during the offseason. He's expected to be a big piece of the offensive puzzle. Should he be forced to miss some time, it would be a huge loss for the Blues. They have a 1-1-1 record to start the season.
