The St. Louis Blues dodged a huge bullet Thursday night as Paul Stastny appears to be okay after a lower body collision with New York Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi. According to in St. Louis, Stastny and Girardi appeared to have collided knee-to-knee when Girardi attempted a step-up play after Stastny beat him on a zone-exit.

The play looked a lot worse than it turned out to be as Stastny returned from the dressing room in the third period. Blues coach Ken Hitchcock told the St. Louis Post Dispatch, "I'm sitting there looking at him (Stastny) on the ice thinking (torn) MCL, ACL." Stastny proved to the team and the home crowd that he was just fine by beating Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist for a goal in the third period after his return.

Stastny spent his first seven years in the NHL in Denver with the Colorado Avalanche. He also won an NCAA title there with the Denver Pioneers in 2005. Stastny has recorded 459 points in his career including 161 goals. The Blues take on the Calgary Flames tonight at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis where Stastny is expected to play after missing practice Friday.
