By on 10/11/2014 12:11:00 PM

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin will miss Saturday night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers with an upper-body injury, as confirmed by the team via their official Twitter account. Jarred Tinordi will take his spot. Emelin is considered day-to-day.

Emelin left last Thursday's game against the Washington Capitals late in the third period and did not come back out from the dressing room. The exact nature of his injury remains unknown, and there's no official timetable for his return.

The 28-year-old hard-hitting defenseman played in 59 games for the Habs last season, missing some time with various injuries. He scored three goals and added 14 assists. He averaged 19:15 TOI. In the two games played this season, he has two assists and played around 22 minutes each game.

In his place, 22-year-old Jarred Tinordi will play in his first game of the season. He appeared in 22 games in 2013-14, having spent much of the season with the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs. He finished with two assists and a minus-2 plus/minus record for the Canadiens.
