Capitals Injury Update: Brooks Laich leaves game after hit from Shawn Thornton [Video]

Washington Capitals forward Brooks Laich left Saturday night's game against the Florida Panthers and did not return, as reported by Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post. The injury occurred with just about five minutes left in the game, when Laich received a hit from Panthers winger Shawn Thornton. He's considered day-to-day until more information is known.

The hit did not look too hard at first. However, Laich went straight to the bench and into the dressing room. By the looks of it, it may be a shoulder injury.

Head coach Barry Trotz did not see the hit, and wasn't aware of the exact nature of the injury at first.

“He had hurt his knee blocking a shot two games previous, and I thought it hit him on the same spot,” Trotz said. “When he went off someone told me it was upper body, not lower body.”

Laich has played in all five of the Capitals' games this season. He has recorded one assist and is averaging 15 minutes of TOI per game.

The team practices on Monday, and Trotz hopes to provide an update then.

Prewitt also reports that Laich's agent says that "it is not serious", which is good news for the Caps.
