Capitals Injury Update: Brooks Laich Will Not Travel With Team. Tom Wilson Sent to Rehab Assignment in AHL

By on 10/21/2014 12:40:00 PM

The Washington Capitals made a few decisions on two injuries players as the team heads out west for a three game road trip through Canada. Jason Brough from Pro Hockey Talk reported that Brooks Laich will not join the team on the road trip. Brough also reported that forward Tom Wilson will be sent down to AHL Hershey for practice and two games.

Brooks Laich suffered a left shoulder injury late in the third period of the Caps' 2-1 shootout win over the Florida Panthers on Saturday. Video of the injury can be seen here. Washington Capitals coach Barry Trotz considers Laich’s injury “not too serious”, but the team wants to give Laich three games to rest and recover. Tom Wilson fractured his fibula over the summer and is now healthy enough to begin a rehab assignment with the Washington AHL affiliate in Hershey. If Wilson practices well during the week, he will play in two Hershey games on Friday and Saturday night. The Capitals will then review his progress and determine his next steps. A early to mid-November return is very possible for Tom Wilson.

The Caps next game is in Edmonton on Wednesday.
