Cardinals Injury Update: Carson Palmer suffers a setback

By on 10/02/2014 11:15:00 AM

Quarterback Carson Palmer missed Week 2 and Week 3 with a nerve issue in his right shoulder, so a Week 4 bye for the undefeated Arizona Cardinals was well-timed in terms of allowing him to return to action this week. All indications last week pointed to Palmer being able to start Sunday against the Denver Broncos, but he sought a second opinion on Wednesday and now has to be considered very questionable for Week 5.

Wednesday was considered an important day for Palmer's ability to play this week, as Cardinals' head coach Bruce Arians said he wanted to see more progress from the veteran signal caller. The fact he was not even in the building points to a long-term issue that could sideline Palmer beyond this week, and his status for the rest of the season now has to be considered up in the air.

Drew Stanton played solidly in Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers (18-for-33 for 244 yards and two touchdowns), and he looks certain to make a third straight start for the Cardinals on Sunday. With Palmer's health in question, Stanton may make many more starts this season with rookie Logan Thomas as his backup.
