Cardinals Injury Update: Jon Jay, Adam Wainwright, Michael Wacha

The St. Louis Cardinals won 90 games and a National League Central division title this season, but lost in five games in the NLCS to the San Francisco Giants. The Cardinals look to improve upon an offense which was 23rd in the Major Leagues in runs scored. One player that figures to be a big piece to the puzzle is center fielder Jon Jay, who had surgery on his left wrist. There are also injury updates on pitchers Adam Wainwright and Michael Wacha.

As reported by Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Jay is figured to be back at full strength for Spring Training next season following surgery on his left wrist this week. Jay has been dealing with a wrist issue since July and will have a scope to clear out any damage in the area. Jay his. 500 in the NLCS and hit .303 with three home runs and 46 RBI in 140 games in the regular season.

As for Wainwright, he had a numerous exams on his right elbow and it appears that no medical procedure will be necessary to resolve the issue. He has been prescribed rest and the Cardinals will alter his schedule next spring in order to save some wear and tear on the elbow. Wainwright was 20-9 with a 2.38 ERA in 227 innings.  In 280 career games, Wainwright it 119-66 with an ERA of 3.01.

Wacha, who was 5-6 with a 3.20 ERA in 19 starts this season, had an MRI on Friday to check on the condition of the stress fracture in his right shoulder. The good news is only continued healing was found. Wacha has a career record of 9-7 with a 3.04 ERA in 34 games.
