Cardinals Injury Update: Kevin Siegrist left off roster with arm issues

By on 10/03/2014 10:30:00 AM

The St. Louis Cardinals enter Game 1 of the NLDS tonight against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Adam Wainwright goes for the Cardinals against Clayton Kershaw, in what should be a pitching battle between the top two Cy Young Award candidates in the National League. On the injury front, left-handed reliever Kevin Siegrist has beeen left off the roster with arm issues.

As reported by Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Siegrist had an MRI on Monday and had various tests to determine the cause of stiffness and discomfort in his left forearm and hand. The tests indicated muscle tears in his hand and inflammation in his forearm. As a result, he has been left of the roster for the NLDS.

With rest, rehab and perhaps even pitching during this series, Siegrist is hopeful he can return later in the post season, should the Cardinals advance.

Siegrist, in his second Major League season, struggled this year. In 37 appearances, he was 1-4 with a 6.83 ERA. He allowed 32 hits, five home runs and 16 walks in 30 1/3 innings. Siegrist has a career record of 4-5 with a 3.21 ERA in 82 games.
