Cavaliers Injury Alert: Kyrie Irving out for the week

By on 10/15/2014 07:30:00 AM

While the Cleveland Cavaliers visited Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Kyrie Irving was spotted in a walking boot. The two-time All Star's injury status has since improved, but he will still be sidelined for Wednesday's game against the Indiana Pacers.

First-year head coach David Blatt commented on his point guard's timetable (from Cleveland.com):
I personally don't want to see him step into a game before he's been on the practice floor in live play. If we have the chance to practice him 5-on-5 before we put him into an actual match, then we will. Hopefully that will take place at the end of the week.
Irving sprained his ankle when teammate Anderson Varejao stepped on his foot Tuesday before the squad left for Rio. It's likely Matthew Dellavedova will start in his place until he returns.
Irving averaged 20.8 points, 6.1 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game for Cleveland last year, and he will certainly have to adjust his game now that LeBron James and Kevin Love have come to town.
