The Boston Celtics are off to a 2-2 start in the preseason following a 2013-2014 season in which they won just 25 games. At 26th in points per game last season, the Celtics are looking to improve offensively heading into the regular season. On the injury front, Vitor Faverani, who missed the last couple months of last season, will be out 6-to-8 weeks following knee surgery.

Our own Dylan Mendelowitz reported on October 5 that Faverani, who had season-ending surgery in March after tearing the meniscus in his left knee, was limited in practice due to swelling in his left knee. Faverani then underwent a precautionary MRI.

An update on Faverani, as reported by Zack Cox of, is that Faverani, who hadn't seen any action this preseason, underwent surgery on Monday in Spain and is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks.

Faverani, a 26-year old center from Brazil, played in 37 games for the Celtics last season. He averaged 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 13.2 minutes per game. With Faverani out, expect Tyler Zeller and Joel Anthony to see more playing time behind starter Kelly Olynyk.
