Ducks Injury Update: Dany Heatley out a week with groin injury

By on 10/01/2014 11:35:00 AM

The Anaheim Ducks were dealt a minor setback when newly acquired forward Dany Heatley suffered a groin injury that is likely to shelve the 5-time All-Star for at least a week to begin the season. According to CBS Sports, Heatley sustained the injury during the Ducks 4-2 preseason loss to the LA Kings on Sunday night.

Heatley was hoping to have his career re-energized in Anaheim playing alongside Ducks stars Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry on the first line. Unfortunately for Heatley and the Ducks, he will have to wait at least a week before he can hope to put his disappointing 2013-14 season with Minnesota behind him (28 points in 76 games with the Wild). The Ducks are hoping that playing along side two additional All-Stars in Getzlaf and Perry gives Heatley the opportunity to contribute more offensively when he does make his debut.

Heatley signed a one-year, $1M contract with the Ducks this past off-season. He had already shown signs of what he is capable of contributing by racking up three points including two goals this preseason. Heatley has 791 career points in previous stints with Atlanta (now Winnipeg), Ottawa, San Jose and Minnesota.
