Eagles Injury Report: Jason Kelce, Mychal Kendricks, Darren Sproles

By on 10/26/2014 02:58:00 PM

This Sunday the Philadelphia Eagles will go into Arizona to take on the Cardinals. The Eagles will be coming into the game with numerous injuries to their offense and defense which include C Jason Kelce (hernia), LB Mychal Kendricks (calf) and RB Darren Sproles (knee), all of whom are listed as questionable.

According to the Eagles official injury report, Running back Chris Polk (hamstring), linebacker DeMeco Ryans (groin) and corner back Jaylen Watkins have all been listed as probable after fully participating during this week’s practices. Wide receiver Brad Smith has been listed as out for Sunday’s game due to a groin injury.

With a hernia injury Jason Kelce is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. This week he was limited in practice every day this week. Kelce is predicted by many to start against the Texans next month, raising questions to Kelce’s “questionable” designation.

As for Darren Sproles, He was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, too, but ended up participating in Friday’s practice fully. He will most likely be a game-time decision seeing as his knee has some irregularities.

“‘When I was on the field, they thought my knee was bad by the way that it was moving,’ Sproles told the Eagles official website. A brace was utilized during Tuesday's training session by Sproles for the first time in his career. He mentioned that it did not hinder his movement to a great degree. As to whether or not he would play this week, Sproles chuckled and said, ‘If I feel the way I did today, then yeah, but that decision is up to the coach.’ To elaborate more on that, Sproles said that he was able ‘to do some stuff out there help me back a little bit and to get me going again.’”

This season Sproles has rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries, while catching 16 passes for 198 yards and one touchdown. If he isn’t able to go on Sunday, LeSean McCoy should be seeing a lot more touches inside and outside of the backfield. The Cardinals are known for having a stringent run defense. McCoy needs all of the help he can get.

The biggest uncertainty for this Eagles squad is probably LB Mychal Kendricks who hasn’t seen game-time since week two against the Indianapolis Colts. Due to a debilitating calf injury, Kendricks has missed the Eagles past five games. According to Comcast Sports Net Philadelphia, “the availabily of Sproles and Kendricks likely won’t be known officially until inactives are announced about an hour before Sunday’s game. If Kendricks can’t play, his spot will again be filled by a rotation of Casey Matthews and Emmanuel Acho.”

On the road, this game should be interesting considering the amount of injuries to both teams. The loss of Sproles would be huge for the Eagles who typically use Sproles in passing situations. LeSean McCoy will have to step up and take Sproles position. As for Mychal Kendricks, the Eagles are going to have to step it up against an offense that has been hot as of late.
