Flames Injury Update: Mikael Backlund placed on IR

By on 10/31/2014 09:09:00 AM

As if losing Matt Stajan, Joe Colborne and Mason Raymond wasn't enough to aggravate any Flames fan, add veteran center Mikael Backlund to the ever-growing list of injured players for Calgary. Dhiren Mahiban of ProHockeyTalk.com is reporting that Backlund was placed on injured reserved yesterday.

Backlund suffered an abdominal injury this past summer in Sweden and the injury slowed his progress when he returned to Calgary for training camp. He has played in all 11 games for the Flames this season however, contributing one goal and three assists.

Backlund was a first-round draft pick of Calgary (24th overall) in 2007. He has played in 257 career games and has contributed 105 points including 42 goals in his seven years with the Flames.
