Flyers Injury Update: Braydon Coburn injury not too serious

By on 10/10/2014 03:15:00 PM

The Philadephia Flyers got some good news today, as defenseman Braydon Coburn will not miss significant time, as reported by Sam Carchidi of He missed Thursday night's game with a lower-body injury, after getting hurt in the season-opener on Wednesday.

General Manager Ron Hextall said that they initially feared Coburn would be forced to miss several weeks. However, there's a chance he will be able to return on October 18 as the team begins a 3-game roadtrip. If that pans out, he will have missed only three games. Hextall remains optimistic, but will have a better idea when Coburn gets re-examined on Monday.

The 29-year-old played in all 82 games last season. He finished with five goals and 12 assists. He's a more stay-at-home defenseman and logs a ton of minutes for the team. He's been averaging over 22 minutes per game over the last three seasons, with over three minutes on the penalty kill.

A long-term loss of Coburn would have been devastating for the Flyers, who've lost their first two games of the season for the third season in a row. The news on Coburn could not have been better.
