Flyers Injury Update: Wayne Simmonds is wearing a boot on left foot

Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds's injury appears worse than initially thought. The injured Simmonds was seen on Sunday with a walking boot, as reported by Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly. The injury occurred in last Tuesday's preseason game against the New York Rangers.

The Flyers begin the new season on October 8 in Boston against the Bruins. “Right now, he’s out,” head coach Craig Berube said. “And he hasn’t practiced, so we’ll see about (Monday). If he can get on the ice (Monday) and then maybe practice the next day, maybe I’ll consider putting him in (Wednesday). I don’t know. Right now it’s up in the air.”

The power forward's availability for the season opener will depend on if he can practice. “Like I said, without skating and stuff, then he’s going to play the Boston Bruins, that’s not fair to him probably and not fair to the team," Berube said. "We’ll have to see how it goes.”

Simmonds played in all 82 games for the Flyers last season. He scored 29 goals and 31 assists. Of those 60 points, 24 of them came on the powerplay. He also averaged 16:49 TOI.

It looks very likely that Simmonds will not play on Wednesday, which will be a big blow to the team. Should he be forced to miss several games, this could play a role in the Flyers' start to the season.
