Giants Injury Update: Michael Morse not on NLDS roster

By on 10/03/2014 01:00:00 PM

The San Francisco Giants enter Game 1 of the NLDS against the Washington Nationals today coming off a 8-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on the NL Wild Card game. The Giants, who were 12th in the Major Leagues in runs scored and 10th in team ERA, will be without Michael Morse, who has been left off the NLDS roster due to a nagging oblique injury.

Our own Rose Ingberman reported yesterday that Morse, who sat out the Wild Card game on Wednesday as he was recovering from a strained oblique, was getting closer to being ready for the NLDS. Manager Bruce Bochy indicated he'd wait until the last possible moment before making a decision on Morse for the NLDS roster.

Jon Morosi, who covers MLB for  Fox Sports 1, tweeted the following update on Morse.
Morse, in his 10th Major League season, hit .279 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI for the Giants in 131 games. Morse had his best season in 2011 when he hit .303 for the Nationals, with 31 home runs and 95 RBI. The veteran outfielder has played for the Mariners, Nationals, Orioles and Giants and is a career .281 hitter with 99 home runs and 333 RBI.
