Giants Injury Update: Victor Cruz placed on IR

By on 10/15/2014 03:05:00 PM

The New York Giants officially placed Victor Cruz on injured reserve on Tuesday. The Giants' star wide receiver suffered a torn patellar tendon during Sunday night's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, as reported by Dan Hanzus from Around the NFL.

Cruz injured his knee attempting to make a potential touchdown catch in the endzone. The receiver leaped, and as the ball slipped through his fingers, he reached for his knee. Everyone who was nearby  knew it was bad, as players started gathering around him offering their support.

The cameras caught Cruz visibly crying as the cart was taking him to the locker rooms. He was very emotional. You could tell he knew this was the end of his season.

Cruz was admitted Sunday night to Philadelphia's Jefferson Hospital, but was transfered to a Manhattan hospital to be further evaluated and eventually have the surgery.

Unfortunately for Cruz, the rehabilitation from a torn patellar tendon in most cases is much more difficult to recover from than a torn ACL injury. Cruz, who is 27, has a tough road ahead of him leaving his future in question. The Giants expect him to be back for training camp next year. The big question will be what type of player he will be from here on out.
