Grizzlies Injury Update: Courtney Lee leaves game with injured left ankle

By on 10/21/2014 12:51:00 PM

Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard Courtney Lee injured his left ankle on Monday, however the injury does not appear to be serious. The injury occurred during the first half of the team's preseason contest against the Dallas Mavericks, and caused Lee to sit out the remainder of the game. For now, the injury is being described as a "mild" ankle sprain, however Lee has had problems with his ankles in the past.

The 6'5" shooting guard out of Western Kentucky was recently named the opening day starter by Grizzlies head coach Dave Joerger, just as he was for the club last year. Lee averaged 11 points per game last year with the Grizzlies, up from the 7.4 mark he averaged as a member of the Boston Celtics. In fact, Lee's numbers were up across the board after the mid season trade sent him south to Memphis. The sharpshooter played 30 minutes a game for the Grizzlies and provided the team with a much needed offensive boost at the shooting guard position.

Lee will look to supply similar offensive production this upcoming season, despite the acquisition of veteran wing man Vince Carter. While highly unlikely, if Lee is forced to miss some time then defensive stopper Tony Allen and Carter will most likely see a boost in minutes.
