Gustav Nyquist returns to action after knee injury

By on 10/02/2014 04:33:00 PM

Detroit Red Wings winger Gustav Nyquist returned to preseason action last night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Ian McLaren at The Score reported that the Red Wings had been holding their breath since Saturday when Nyquist suffered the knee injury against the Boston Bruins.

Gustav Nyquist started last night's game and led the team with five shots in over 19 minutes on the ice. Nyquist was also called for a holding penalty midway through the third period which resulted in a Penguins power play goal by Oskar Sundquist. Detroit was on the losing end of this game 2-0, but had to be encouraged by the quick recovery of Nyquist.

In only 57 games played in the 2013-2014 season, Gustav Nyquist was in the top-30 for goals scored throughout the NHL and led the entire Red Wings team in scoring. A healthy 2014-2015 season could result in Nyquist improving this ranking and leading Detroit in scoring for a second straight season.

Detroit ends the preseason with games against Toronto (Friday) and Boston (Saturday).
