Hurricanes Injury Update: Andrej Sekera and Jeff Skinner out for Tonight’s Game

By on 10/16/2014 03:00:00 PM

The Carolina Hurricanes will be without both Jeff Skinner and Andrej Sekera tonight for their game against the New York Rangers.

Jeff Skinner has been out of the lineup since October 5th with a concussion suffered in the preseason but was hoping to rejoin the team for Thursday’s game. After the morning skate, it was determined that Skinner still needs a few more days of rest.

Andrej Sekera suffered what looked to be a serious injury Tuesday night as he crashed headfirst into the end boards and had to be helped from the ice by his teammates. Miraculously, Sekera suffered no broken bones or ligament damage and was able to participate in the morning skate on Thursday.  Video of the injury is here and Sekera is indeed lucky to survive relatively unscathed. According to Michael Smith from nhl.com, Sekera could return to the lineup next Tuesday in Winnipeg.

Carolina will welcome both Skinner and Sekera back into the lineup in the near future as they climb back towards .500.
