Hurricanes Injury Update: Eric Staal out Tuesday

By on 10/14/2014 09:30:00 PM

Eric Staal will not play on Tuesday night due to an upper body injury according to NBC Sports. Staal left Saturday night's loss to the Islanders with discomfort in his upper body after being hit by Islanders forward Matt Martin. Staal does not have a concussion as first thought but he will still be left out of the line-up tonight as the Carolina Hurricanes take on the Buffalo Sabres.

So what does this mean for a struggling Hurricanes team? The Hurricanes have been decimated by recent injuries to Jordan Staal, Jeff Skinner, Patrick Dwyer, and now Eric Staal. this means that the Hurricanes will have to demand more out of their bottom six to come up and fill the slots that have been vacated by the injured veterans. There is no indication that this injury is long term it wasn't a concussion as originally feared by the Hurricanes, never the less they will need to demand a lot more out of top veterans and rookies. They will look to veteran players like Alexander Semin, Jiri Tlusty, and Nathan Gerbe they will need to take over the leadership of such a young Hurricanes team. Tonight will be a good test of how the struggling Hurricanes can overcome these injuries to their key players against the Buffalo Sabres another struggling team who are also looking to find their way after early season struggles. Look for breakout performances from players like Victor Rask, Alexander Semin, and Cam Ward on the back end to lead the Hurricanes tonight against the Sabres
