Hurricanes Injury Update: Sekera, Liles, Skinner all near return

By on 10/21/2014 08:30:00 AM

There is more good news coming for the Carolina Hurricanes. Yes Eric Staal is skating, and the team is about to welcome back three players to their lineup. These players include defensemen Andrej Sekera and John-Michael Liles and forward Jeff Skinner.

Andrej Sekera has been off since last week during a game against the Buffalo Sabres. He flew headfirst into the boards and had to be helped off the ice for teammates. What could have been a very dangerous play, ended up being lucky for the player. He returned to the ice, skating with the injured skaters 48 hours after the incident.

Sekera has taken part in a full practice on Monday and he could return to the lineup Tuesday against the Winnipeg Jets but it will be a wait and see situation. There is no guarantee.

John-Michael Liles left the game on Tuesday night against the Buffalo Sabres with an apparent back injury. Not much was said about the injury but he has been skating since. He was expected to be cleared for contact on Monady's skate with his teammates but he was still supporting a no-contact jersey. It is expected to come off any day.

As for Jeff Skinner, he is still not cleared. He suffered from a concussion on October 5th, during the teams final preseason game. He has been skating for about a week and is making progress but they will not rush him back from a concussion.

As well two other players who suffered from a lower body injury;  forwards Nathan Gerbe and Patrick Dwyer have not yet taken the ice. Gerbe is expected to be ready to skate before Dwyer.
