Islanders Injury Update: Thomas Hickey plays against Bruins

By on 10/23/2014 09:33:00 PM

The New York Islanders got lucky when it comes to defenseman Thomas Hickey. Hickey left the game on Tuesday night during a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs after being struck in the face by Mike Santorelli's skate.

Hickey immediately left the game following the injury. The following day he was back at practice with his teammates.

Hickey says he's been struck in the face by several pucks and did not feel much different. Also states that once the numbing medication wore off, after getting several stitches, he felt fine.

"I've been hit in the face with pucks before, so I just tried not to worry that it was really bad," Hickey said. "Once the numbing medication wore off (Tuesday night) I felt OK."

Hickey returned to the game on Thursday night against the Boston Bruins. He wore a facial mask to protect the cut and the stitches.

During Hickey's first game following the injury against the Bruins, he played a little over 17 minutes.
